RESTORING MINDS THERAPY

Vicky Clothier

I am a compassionate, warm and authentic person who utilises both my professional training and my own lived experiences to guide the therapeutic journey.

During my career, I have worked with a wide range of issues, and many colourful and diverse individuals. Through these experiences, I have developed a skill set that fosters trust and the safety to discuss intimate thoughts and experiences. I believe that the therapeutic space is somewhere to feel known and understood, a place to work through the painful aspects of your life and discover your inner wisdom and innate ability to heal and grow.

I initially trained as an Addiction Counsellor, though through my work discovered that addiction was often just a symptom of internal distress. So, I went on a journey to explore Eastern philosophies and other therapeutic modalities to enhance my knowledge of trauma and understanding of internal distress. Over my 25-year career, I have trained in several modalities, and have found myself influenced by Mindfulness-Based Therapies. I have trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Diversity Affirming Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and more recently Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy.

I also have extensive experience working with at-risk communities, partnering with several not-for-profit agencies (New Zealand Prostitutes Collective; Body Positive; Lifewise and Outline NZ) to deliver counselling to street-based sex workers, people living with HIV, homeless, and LGBTTFQI+.

I have completed training in Clinical Supervision, with years of experience supporting both novice and advanced practitioners. I have provided clinical supervision to the counselling team and trans peer support service at Outline NZ (LGBTTFQI+ counselling and helpline service) for the past 10 years, so I have a wealth of experience working with LGBTTFQI+ related challenges. I am an experienced trainer and group facilitator, currently providing Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) in both individual and group therapy.
